The FAR-ILD study is designed to detect and study the earliest stages of Interstitial Lung Disease (or ILD) in at risk adults, such as current and former smokers age 50 and older. ILD refers to scarring or inflammation in the lungs. FAR-ILD is a non-interventional study. This means that FAR-ILD is not involved in testing any new interventions or therapies. The purpose of FAR-ILD is to gather data on adults at risk for developing ILD over time in order to help physicians and researchers better understand ILD. There is no cost associated with participating in FAR-ILD and your insurance will not be billed. All study procedures are paid for in full by the National Institutes of Health. If you enroll in the FAR-ILD study, you may be asked to undergo the following study-related procedures: CAT scan, pulmonary function testing, blood draw from a vein, & return visits.
