Additional Study Information:

The phrase sitting is the new smoking has been coined due to an increase of excessive sitting in middle- and older-aged adults. However, there are currently no specific guidelines for the best way to break up long periods of sitting. This study will look at the effect of breaking up sitting periods with movement breaks on blood sugar levels. We are looking for non-smoking, otherwise healthy adults, who sit for most of their day with little to no exercise. Participants will be asked to sit taking 1 or 5-minute walking breaks every 30 or 60 minutes over an 8-hour period. Compensation of $100 is provided after each completed visit, for a total of up to $500 for completing all 5 visits.
