Additional Study Information: The Informatics Interventions for Diabetes Self-Management research team is recruiting research participants for the study of a new smartphone intervention for self-management of type 2 diabetes, Platano. The research team is led by the Principal Investigator, Olena Mamykina, Ph.D. at the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University Medical Center. The purpose for this study is to identify new approaches to incorporating data collected with self-monitoring into improved medical care and self-management for individuals with type 2 diabetes.Participants will use Platano- a smartphone app to capture meals (photograph) and record blood glucose levels captured with a blood glucose meter and wear a FitBit (provided by our team) to keep track of physical activity, heart rate, and sleep. Study incentives include receiving a free smartphone and FitBit device and monetary compensations.
