Mariam El-Ashmawy earned her MD and PhD from UT Southwestern in Dallas TX, then completed Internal Medicine residency at NYU and Bellevue Hospitals. She joined Columbia as a Hematology-Oncology fellow and has been awarded a Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. Her research focuses on the biology of KRAS amplification, and she has been testing novel RAS-targeted therapies in preclincal gastric and esophageal cancer models. In addition to laboratory work, she will be treating patients with GI cancers with a particular focus on gastric and esophageal cancer.
