Please note--this is an unpaid study. We are doing this research study to learn if a newer model of the BOD POD, an instrument that measures body fat and body composition, works as well as an older model. The BOD POD looks like a large egg-shaped machine with a window through which you and the technician can see each other. The assessment involves you sitting quietly in the BOD POD for approximately 15 minutes and puffing through a tube 2-3 times. You will be tested in 2 different BOD POD machines; therefore your total time in the study will be about 30 minutes. The test will be conducted with you wearing tight fitting underwear or a tight fitting swimsuit (which you will bring or wear from home) and a tight fitting hair cap (that we will provide). There are no physical risks related to participating in this research study. All information you give us will be kept confidential. You will not benefit from taking part in this study, but you will be provided with a report of your body composition, including percentage of body fat, which may be of value to you. You will not receive any payment or other reward for taking part in this study and there will be no costs to you for being in this study. Taking part in this study is your choice. You can decide not to take part in or stop being in the study at any time. Your choice will not change the treatment you receive from doctors and staff at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) nor your employment at CUMC.
