Additional Study Information: The purpose of this project is to learn more about the nerves in the back of the throat, and how they participate in the swallowing process. We are looking for healthy individuals ages 65 years old and above with no difficulty swallowing. The main task involves inserting a flexible scope with a camera into your nose to look at your throat as you swallow foods of different textures. Then, a few small tissue samples (each one is about half the size of a pencil eraser) will be collected from the back of your throat so that we may look at the nerves under a microscope. Numbing medication will be applied before the tissue collection, and patients typically have only mild soreness after the procedure, lasting 24 - 48 hours. The visit will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour total, and you will be compensated $100. This study does not require any follow up visits.
