Additional Study Information: My Hand Project for Stroke Patients: We are testing a robotic device to help people who had a stroke use their weak hand more easily. This research study would involve you wearing a hand robot that helps open and close your fingers in order to use your hand to pick up common everyday objects. During the study, you may be asked to try out different modifications we have made to the device and provide feedback about your experience. These modifications would include things such as trying out new sensors that can detect your movements more accurately and trying out a new part that would help move your thumb when you try to pinch. If you had a stroke at least 6 months ago and have difficulty using one of your hands in everyday tasks, you may qualify for this study. We are looking for individuals who have some ability to pick up objects (bend the fingers), but have more difficulty releasing objects (straightening fingers). You will be compensated $50 per clinic visit and will be asked to come to the clinic between 1-10 times. Please contact Lauren Winterbottom, research occupational therapist, for more information: 212-305-6722 or lbw2136@cumc.columbia.edu.
