The Davachi Lab is currently running research studies to investigate how learning and information processing occurs in the brain. These studies are conducted using fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging), a non-invasive tool that allows us to examine your brain activity as you complete different tasks. As a participant, you will be asked to complete tasks that involve making simple behavioral responses (e.g., pressing buttons on a keyboard or button box), looking at visual stimuli (e.g., scenes, objects), and making judgments about those stimuli. These tasks will take place both in the MRI scanner and outside of the scanner on a computer. Taking part in this study will involve approximately 5 hours of your time and will consist of 4 sessions over multiple days. Your time will be compensated with $30/hour for time spent in the MRI scanner and $12/hour for time spent completing tasks outside of the scanner. To participate, you must be 18-35 years old, be right-handed, have normal or corrected-to normal vision, have normal color vision and be a non-smoker. You also must not have any metal in or on your body that cannot be removed, must not be pregnant, and must not be taking psychoactive medications. If you meet the primary study criteria listed above, you will be asked to complete our screening questionnaires online which will further assess your eligibility. Once you completed the questionnaires, we will let you know whether you are eligible/inform you why you are not eligible. The Principal Investigator of the lab is Dr. Lila Davachi, and this study will be conducted in the Department of Psychology at Columbia University. Sessions will take place in the Jerome L. Greene Science Center and/or Schermerhorn Hall on Columbias Morningside Campus.
