Additional Study Information: Celiac disease is associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Men with celiac disease were found to be at higher risk for metabolic bone disease compared to women with celiac disease. The mechanisms underlying metabolic bone disease in celiac disease remain incompletely understood. The goal of this study is to assess skeletal microstructure using high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT, an imaging technique which provides 3D images of the bone, in men with celiac disease. Additionally, assessment of skeletal health along with biochemical and inflammatory markers obtained through blood work will help elucidate the pathophysiological processes leading to bone loss in men with celiac disease. We are recruiting both adult males with celiac disease age 18-85 years old and healthy adult males without celiac disease age 20-55 years old. Subjects will have one study visit where information will be collected about bone health including questionnaires, blood work, bone density scan (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) and high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT.
