Additional Study Information: The purpose of this study is to learn about the causes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This is the most common type of liver disease, affecting millions of people in the United States alone. The incidence of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is very similar to that of obesity, type-2 diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome, suggesting a relationship between decreased physical activity, over-nutrition, and fatty liver development. The study is PI initiated and anticipates enrolling 100 patients from Columbia. Specific lipids and proteins present in liver tissue and blood of patients both with and without NAFLD will be analyzed for this study.
