Come and talk with us about HIV prevention! HPTN 113-01/DUO is a series of 3 focus group discussions with young Latino/e/x cisgender men and gender nonbinary persons assigned male at birth (AMAB), who have sex with men. The focus groups will be conducted in English or Spanish, include 5-10 people, and be audio-recorded. Participants will be asked to give feedback on a suite of mHealth tools (apps) and educational handouts about choices of HIV prevention methods, including medication taken before sex to decrease the chance of getting HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and doxycycline, an antibiotic that is sometimes used after sex as a way to reduce the chance of getting some sexually transmitted infections(Doxy-PEP). The feedback from the focus groups will be used to improve the mobile health tools and handouts that will be used in a later HIV prevention study. Some discussions will involve sensitive topics such as sexuality and sexual practices. Participants will use code names during the focus groups and we will set ground rules on the importance of confidentiality, but there is always a chance that people might know each other or not be respectful of confidentiality. We hope that participants will be excited about these new tools for reducing the risk of HIV and that they will learn from the discussion groups. We also hope that people will commit to participate in all three focus group sessions, but participants are free to withdraw at any time. Participants will be compensated for each focus group that they attend.
