We are conducting a research study on how psoriasis might be caused or worsened by high levels of the blood sugar-lowering hormone insulin. We are seeking people with plaque psoriasis, ages 18-65, who are overweight or obese with a body mass index of 25-35. Participants will have blood drawn and small skin biopsies taken from psoriasis plaques and nearby healthy skin before and after drinking a sugary beverage (total of 4 biopsies). We will use these specimens to determine if there is too much insulin activity in the psoriatic skin. The study takes place on a single morning, over 3-4 hours and participants will receive free transportation by car service or reimbursement for transportation expenses.
