The Dynamic Social Cognition Lab (DSCLab) is currently running a research study to map the parts of the brain involved in how we process social situations. This study involves a combination of clinical, behavioral and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sessions. The clinical and behavioral sessions include questionnaires about yourself and your history as well as tests of your thinking. These tests will include some computer-based tasks and some movie-watching tasks where we will also record your eye- movements. These sessions will be followed by 8 MRI sessions scheduled on separate days. Each session will last 1.5-2 hours, and will consist of combinations of scans where you are resting, scans during which you are watching a movie or listening to a story, and scans where you are performing tasks designed to activate the brain areas involved in different aspects of understanding social situations. Your time will be compensated at $20/hour for the interview/testing sessions, $30/hour for the first MRI session, and $10 more per hour for each subsequent MRI session ($40/hour for the second session, $50/hour for the third session, etc.) for a total potential compensation of approximately $1600. To participate, you must be between 22 and 35 years old, be right-handed, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision, have normal color vision, have normal hearing, be a native English speaker, and not have any current or past psychiatric history. The Principal Investigator of the lab is Dr. Gaurav Patel, and this study is conducted in the Department of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
